Kickstart placements are open to young people aged 16-24 who are in receipt of universal credit and ready for an opportunity
How do I secure a placement?
If you are 16-24 and in receipt of universal credit, talk to your Jobcentre Plus work coach about the scheme, find out if you’re eligible and ask if there are any Kickstart opportunities coming up. When there are Kickstart opportunities available that suit your skill set, your work coach will discuss them with you. You will then apply for a specific role and, in some cases, go through an interview to secure the placement.
What happens after I’m offered a placement?
Once an employer has requested you join their team, you will be given a start date and sign a contract of employment for the duration of the scheme. This will outline when you’ll get paid, how much and what is expected of you as an employee. You will receive at least 25 hours a week at the minimum wage for your age.
What happens when the placement actually starts?
You will go to work on the days and times as requested by your employer, contribute to the business and earn a wage.
You will also be supported during the programme with work skills and careers advice to help you learn from this placement opportunity and access work longer-term.
If your employer has come through a SupplyTrain CIC employer or gateway then this employability support will be managed and delivered by us.
What happens when the placement ends?
Towards the end of the placement, all parties will work together to advise you on future work opportunities. These might be with the same employer or a new employer.
