Generation Hull is giving three creative, hardworking people a chance to kickstart their careers working in Hull’s buzzing creative and cultural scene.
As part of the Fight for our Creative Futures programme, this paid apprenticeship will give you the chance to work across two or three exciting organisations – gaining a real feel for what it’s like behind the scenes in the world of theatre, music festivals, libraries, museums and more.
There are several organisations signed up to offer placements, such as:
- Ferens Art Gallary
- Absolutely Cultured
- Freedom Festival Arts Trust
- Hull Libraries – Big Malarkey Festival
- Hull Museums
- Middle Child
- Hull Truck
You’ll get to experience work across two or three of these organisations, where no two days will be the same. You’ll be supporting the creation of festivals and events, helping with admin, meeting creative and cultural professionals, and getting involved in projects that make Hull a brilliant place to live and visit.

The partners bringing this together

Generation Hull is the city’s Local Cultural Education Partnership, bringing together partners from the arts, health and education sectors, to improve creative opportunities for children and young people. Working as an independent arm of Thrive Co-operative Learning Trust, Generation Hull will be responsible for selecting and supporting apprentices and host employers during placements.

Arts Council England is the national development agency for creativity and culture, with a mission to ensure great art and culture for everyone. For this project, Arts Council England is funding the support costs of Generation Hull and a wider three-year Fight For Our Creative Futures programme.

Esteem is a public-private partnership focused on education, regeneration and leisure. Since 2010, Esteem has overseen projects totalling over £500 million. Esteem is committed to social value and, as such, is funding the majority of wage costs of apprentices, on behalf fo the creative companies.

The University of Hull is a public research university in Hull, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including degree apprenticeships. The university is commited to covering the costs of training apprentices on this programme (where necessary), through apprenticeship levy transfer.

Supplytrain is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to create fairer routes into work. We get involved in projects where the standard apprenticeship model doesn’t work. We provide advice, guidance and continous employment and support to apprentices whilst they rotate around different placements. We are your golden thread throughout and on hand to pay you and help you with any queries along the way.

Individual creative companies working across Hull have committed to providing work and support for apprentices that want a career in the creative industries. By coming together, these creative organisations can give you access to work across multiple placements – where you can work on different events and exhibitions, gaining a broad perspective of the industry, new contacts and a better idea of where you see your future job.

Hull College will provide formal training alongside your day-to-day work with creative companies. They will teach you a raft of new administration skills that will help you in a production enviroment, getting events and exhibitions ready to open and supporting your colleagues at work. You will be studying a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship standard as part of this apprenticeship.

Hull City Council is the local authority for the city of Hull, providing a wide range of public services and community support initiatives. As part of its commitment to youth employment and skills development, the council offers apprenticeships across various departments. In this project, Hull City Council is contributing by covering a portion of apprentice wages.
