Interested in a construction trade apprenticeship? Don’t miss this great opportunity!

Are you after a rewarding, physical, job with plenty of opportunity to progress into a well paid career, right here in East Sussex? If so, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!

Kier Construction, in Partnership with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation, is building a 54-bed mental health hospital for adults and older people on a site off Mount View Street, Bexhill-on-Sea.

As part of this work, local construction subcontractors are now on site, committed to offering apprenticeships and entry-level opportunities to local people keen to start a career in a construction trade. Could that be you?

Trades on offer:

There are subcontractors delivering the following trades, that are committed to providing apprenticeship or entry-level opportunities:

  • Bricklaying, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Painting & Decorating, Roofing, Facades, Drylining

What’s it like to work in a construction trade?

Working in a trade is extremely rewarding. You get to help bring to life the most amazing buildings, which can give you a real sense of achievement. You also get to meet loads of different people from all walks of life, work as a team, problem solve and stay physically fit. You’re always learning too – as new techniques and materials become available through technology.

Plus, the pay is good too…

Did you know, that you might start work as an apprentice on £17-21,000 a year, while learning your trade, but experienced bricklayers, plumbers, roofers and other tradespeople can make £40-50,000 a year! And there is always demand for work.

What does it take?

Don’t worry about being an introvert or extrovert or what your grades at school were. To make it as a tradesperson, you have to be up early and arrive at site on time. You’ll need to work in all weather and be able to cope with the physical demands – it is tiring when you start.

You can have a laugh, but need to be sensible too. Health and safety is so important, people that don’t take the work seriously or won’t follow instructions will not make good tradespeople.

Interested? What’s next?

Supplytrain is supporting Kier and its subcontractors to recruit people to start a career in the trades listed above.

To do this, we ask that you apply using the link below. One of our team will then call you to see why you’re interested in this opportunity. In the middle of September, we’ll then select 20-25 people to come to an assessment day on site in Bexhill, where you’ll:

  • Have a talk about the construction industry
  • Site tour – meet each subcontractor recruiting entry-level staff
  • Show your suitability through fun challenges and activities
  • Finish with informal speed interviews with the subcontractors

By running an assessment centre, we can recruit for attitude not just what’s on your CV. Plus, you get a chance to see which subcontractor you’d really like to work with. It’s win, win for the right people.
